I’ve been thinking about my lemonade stand and the dead end road. (lemonade stand post)
I realize that just getting a website up and live is not going to make me an income… even if I use all the best of the tricks they teach.
It’s like having the newest and most beautiful lemonade stand – the designs and fashions of 2010 so it’s really eye catching. You know it should be a people stopper! But there are no people walking by to stop.
So while I’m still not 100% sure of what my exact niche will be, I do realize that I need to understand how to get my lemonade stand on the main road… but not the freeway because no one stops on the freeway! My stand would just be a blink and a bleep as the traffic flies by.
It’s that main road and some side road traffic I’m after.
So I did some more research on how to get traffic. Read a lot of what the gurus and coaches talk about.
It seems the 2010 traffic strategy is the area of social media. And I have a lot to learn about that.
So I finally bit the bullet and signed up for a course in getting traffic via social media using Facebook. Since I love Facebook, I figure this would be a great place for me to start. The coach in this is a good looking guy named Jonathan.
It cost me a bit more than I usually pay but there are so many great reviews of this guy on the net. He seems to really know traffic flow.
Best part is that I can study this whenever it fits into my schedule as each week there are modules uploaded to the member site and then on Fridays there will be a Q & A for that week’s section. I can handle that. Gives us a change to put things into practice and then if there are problems we can ask for help.
I sure hope I’m not overloading myself. My training with Maria is at least 2 webinars a week and then with Tina for the Social Media it’s also another hour. I know I need to figure this all out and get all my accounts set up with the Twitter and LinkedIn and so on … but I also need traffic.
I designated November as the month for research. It’s going great. I just never knew that doing this research would also give me so many “homework” assignments … or calls to action as Maria like to call them.
This week I have just spent so much time in webinars and calls. I had in invite to a new Mastermind group that starting up as a way of brainstorming marketing ideas; an invite to special call with Sandy K about mindset (and I usually listen to her Monday call as well); the regular session with Tina; the two with Maria and then she also had an extra webinar on Monday about A Day in the Life of an Internet Marketer. In fact, tonight I was registered for two webinars at the same time, but I ended up going to Tina’s as I figured that’s the information I paid for.
Oh, then on Saturday I am registered for a intro webinar on Getting Attention with Videos. It was a free one to sign up for and since I won that camera last week, I thought maybe I should learn more about videos.
My goal is that by the end of the month I will have a clearer idea of where I’m heading and how I’m getting there. That will become my business plan. I know that without a real plan, I’ll just be flopping like a fish out of water… and that’s not the image I have of my life after 55.
I know it’s late, but I better get back to my traffic module; our first Q&A webinar is tomorrow night and I still only on the first of two training videos in this weeks module. I want to be able to ask intelligent questions.
I kind of feel like I’m back in college with all these classes I’m going to and the homework assignments. I will admit though, that I love that I can do all of this from my home … wrapped up and snuggly in my cozy blanket. It’s definitely getting to be winter here and my arthritis is telling me there are storms coming. I’m thankful I can study without leaving home.
